Newcastle United to hire legal counsel

Club looking for at least one commercially-focussed lawyer as it revamps legal team

Newcastle United is looking to hire at least one new commercial legal counsel.

The club is looking to hire “one or more experienced commercial lawyer(s) to oversee the legal aspects of the club's broad and complex commercial operations, including high-value sponsorship arrangements, at the start of what promises to be a very exciting period for the club”, according to a statement posted on social media.

The successful candidate will work closely with the club's commercial team and general counsel and will be involved in the “negotiation and drafting of the club's commercial agreements, as well as managing the club's regulatory obligations in respect of these commercial arrangements under the Premier League Rules”, the statement added.

It continued: “The candidate will also be working with the general counsel and external counsel on a variety of legal matters across the club's business, including player transfers, intellectual property matters, corporate governance and compliance matters.”

An investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, acquired Newcastle United Football Club in October last year.

PCP was advised by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer on the takeover.
