Huesca threatens to sue Nwakali

Spanish club expressed its "total repudiation" of the player's contract claims

Spanish football club Huesca has threatened legal action against former midfielder Kelechi Nwakali after the player claimed the club terminated his contract because he represented Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier this year.

In a social media post, Nwakali said the club put pressure on him not to go to AFCON and claims he was told he would not play for the club again if he did participate in the tournament.

A statement issued by the club said: “On the statements made by Kelechi Nwakali earlier today after premature termination of the contract that bound him and SD Huesca, the club wishes to express its total repudiation given their complete lack of veracity.

“All of this is done in the conviction that the club has acted at all times with the utmost respect for the player. Nevertheless, in view of the seriousness of certain statements referred to in his notice, this club reserves for itself the right to take the appropriate legal action to defend its rights to protect its legitimate interests.”
