BDB Pitmans partner Jonathan Brinsden on Abramovich passing club stewardship to foundation
Roman Abramovich’s announcement that he is giving the trustees of the charity, Chelsea FC Foundation, ‘the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC’ surprised the sporting world. Mr Abramovich, who has a net worth of more than $9.6 billion according to the Forbes rich list, has been the owner of Chelsea since 2003. The timing of the gift has left many wondering if this is altruism or enlightened self-interest.
