Lindsay Barenz joins from Washington Spirit

US professional soccer team Oakland Roots has appointed former Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton lawyer Lindsay Barenz as president.

Barenz joins from Women’s Soccer League club Washington Spirit where she was president of business operations.

Barenz – who was a lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb from 2007 to 2011 – succeeds Steven Aldrich, who will continue as club chair.

Barenz said: “I believe strongly in the club’s vision of how a sports organization should be built and I’m excited about the opportunity to work in a wonderful city like Oakland. I can’t wait to get started.”
